Alan currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio but originally hails from Leeds, England. To pay the rent, Alan writes emails all day long for a large global corporation but, for fun, he prefers to create short stories and poetry and has also recently completed a full length mystery novel. When not writing, Alan spends his time constantly learning from his 2 young daughters, guzzling craft beers with his partner Gina, and following Leeds United’s latest mishaps.

The Story of Clearwater

Several years ago I set out on the long journey to see if I could write a full length novel that was actually good enough to get published. I was under no illusion that I was some undiscovered JK Rowling or that my writing was ever likely to make me rich and famous. However, from this ambition slowly emerged, Clearwater Lake, an 80,000 word, dark mystery set in a small, blue collar, Minnesota town in the dead of winter. A story that began as a 300 word piece of flash fiction, became a 4,000 word short story and eventually a full length manuscript. I am now at the point of shopping Clearwater around the literary agent community and who knows whether I will ever achieve my original goal of seeing it on a shelf at Barnes and Noble, but the adventure has taken me to Sweetwater, Minnesota in February, a literary festival in Ireland, a log cabin in Ohio, and a Writer’s Club in Cincinnati. I’ve also learned a lot about ice fishing too.
